Isa Boonto-Zarifis is an artist, mother, and teacher. She was born in Silver Spring, Maryland, but grew up in India, Thailand, and Canada. Isa attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art in 1997. She discovered an interest in teaching art when she lived in Bangkok, Thailand where she taught art at a private international school. Isa moved to Okinawa, Japan in 1998 where she sought to obtain a teaching certificate through the University of Maryland. She then moved from Japan to the U.S. and finally settled in Austin, Texas in 2002. Isa has taught English language arts, special education, high school art, middle school art, and elementary school art with AISD for 11 years.

Isa has three children, Nina, who is a junior at Anderson High School, Zosimo, who just turned 9 and attends Davis Elementary School, and Zevon, who will turn two this Christmas! On her free time she loves spending time with her family, swimming, cooking and baking. As a practicing artist, she is currently working on completing a series of paintings based on travels in west Texas. Isa is looking forward to being at Lanier High School and is very excited to work with students to not just create art, but to also attain the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service within our school and community.
